The Daily Express newspaper is seeking a talented Night News Editor to oversee coverage of the latest breaking news.

We are looking for a proven journalist who will work closely with our Head of News for Daily Express.

The successful candidate will be full of ideas and be ahead of the curve in terms of forward-planning and generating unique angles in a fast-paced newsroom.

Key Responsibilities:

• Source exclusive and agenda-setting stories for use in print in accordance with IPSO and legal requirements.
• To ensure the Express is at the heart of the news agenda by providing agenda-setting stories in line with the Express's editorial stance.
• To collaborate in the newsroom and to engage and support other departments.
• To work closely with the reporting team, pictures and features desk and continue the close cooperation between the Express title and online.
• To complete all tasks in accordance with IPSO and legal requirements.
• To complete all tasks within deadline and in line with budget requirements.

The Ideal Candidate:

• A skilled story-getter with a strong understanding of news reporting and story structure.
• The ability to work well under pressure.
• The ability to multi-task and prioritise effectively, with excellent diary management.
• High level of professionalism is required.
• Strong team player
• Sound judgement and initiative, with ability to make critical decisions in a high pressured environment.
• Comprehensive understanding of domestic and international politics.
• Good nose for a story.
• Excellent communicator, ensuring all relevant information is shared effectively, as the role will also involve liaising with other departments in the company.
• Exceptional attention to detail.
• Previous experience in a fast-paced newsroom.
• Excellent contacts and communications skills.
• NCTJ Diploma or equivalent.
