Oil Price Information Service (OPIS), a Dow Jones Company, provides price transparency across the global supply chain so that all stakeholders can buy and sell oil and energy commodities with confidence. We do this by providing transparent pricing, real-time news, powerful analytics and software and educational and networking events. We also provide a range of free resources and maintain an active blog.

The Research Analyst, Coal, Metals & Mining position requires a junior research analyst with 1 to 3 years of experience in researching mining commodities. The Research Analyst, Coal, Metals & Mining is expected to work within the McCloskey team to perform data, research, and insight functions, as well as additional analysis as needed, including contributions to consulting projects.

Job Duties:

  • Collect data from a wide variety of global sources, with very high accuracy and attention to detail. Maintain data in optimal formats that are accessible by research analysts globally.
  • Contribute to and/or maintain supply-demand balance sheets for coal, iron ore, scrap, and minor metals used in the steel making process.
  • Contribute to and/or maintain price forecasts for these steel raw materials
  • Contribute to monthly and ad hoc deliverables on the coal, metals & mining markets
  • Develop new deliverables, including data visualizations in PowerBI.
  • Analysts will be encouraged to contribute to regular reports and original research, collaborating with the broader Coal, Metals & Mining team, and other groups within OPIS
  • Contribute to ad hoc team needs, such as social media, webinars, and events.


Required Education:

Graduate degree in mathematics, engineering, economics, statistics or industry-related field required. Graduate degree with quantitative skills a plus.

Required Experience:

At least 2 years of experience in a mining-related research, or within the mining industry, or its related markets.

Other Skills:

 

  • Strong writing ability is crucial and will be examined during the interview process.
  • Strong numerical and data analytical skills
  • Effective verbal communication skills

 

 


Advanced proficiency with MS Office applications required (Excel, Word and PowerPoint). Knowledge of Python, PowerBI, Tableau, VBA advantageous.
